Native American activist and Wounded Knee leader Russell Means dies at 72
In 1973, he led the 71 day standoff between AIM (American Indian Movement) and the federal government at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. He was a firebrand and an activist for the Oglala Sioux and the American Indian community at large. He was larger than life, but yesterday, Russell Means passed away at the age of 72.
